Barcaldine Regional Council will be under taking a maintenance grade to Bloodwood and Sandalwood Drives, Barcaldine maintenance works will commence 15 November 2024.

This work is an interim measure to improve the current condition of both roads. Council will return in the new year providing a more complete solution. 

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Barcaldine Regional Council will be undertaking gravel road maintenance to improve the roughness on both Bloodwood and Sandalwood Roads, Barcaldine. These works are part of Council’s Rural Roads Maintenance Program.

The work generally involves:

  • Traffic Management and speed reduction
  • Tyning the existing surface
  • Addition of top up gravel as required
  • Addition of water
  • Compaction and trimming of the final surface

The “Works Areas” is detailed in Figure 1 

 

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?

Site establishment is scheduled to commence Friday 15 November 2024, with the works being completed Saturday 16 November 2024, weather and construction conditions permitting. Works will be conducted between the hours of 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

 

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Council will make every effort to minimise disruption to the traveling public, local community and residents. All works will be undertaken in accordance with relevant safety, communication, and environmental management plans. Due to the nature of the work being conducted, some localised maintenance impacts may be experienced. These may include:

  • Changed traffic conditions such as reduced speed limits, temporary lane closures and associated traffic detours. Site representatives will be available to assist motorists as required.
  • Increased levels of noise, dust, and vibration adjacent to the work site.
  • Truck movements to and from the work site to facilitate the delivery of materials and equipment, and removal of excavated material; and
  • Temporary storage of equipment and materials in the road reserve as required.

Residents will be provided with access throughout this period to their property, with minimal delay and when safe. Full access will be available during the night and on weekends when the maintenance and repair work is not being conducted.
